Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-06-08 · Effective: 2026-06-08

By using Screen Color Picker (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please don't use the Service.

1. The service

Screen Color Picker is a free, browser-based color picker that uses the window.EyeDropper and getDisplayMedia browser APIs to sample colors from your screen. It runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to our servers.

2. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You will not:

  • Use the Service to capture, record, or sample content you do not have permission to view (e.g. someone else's private screen).
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or compromise the Service's infrastructure.
  • Reverse-engineer the Service for malicious purposes (general security research and code audits are explicitly welcome).
  • Resell the Service as your own product.
  • Use the Service in any manner that violates applicable laws or third-party rights.

3. License

The Service is provided to you as a non-exclusive, revocable license to access and use it for personal or commercial color-picking purposes. The Screen Color Picker source code is open-source under the MIT license, available on GitHub. You are free to self-host, fork, modify, or redistribute under the terms of that license.

4. Intellectual property

The Screen Color Picker name, logo, and brand assets are © 2026 Shrestha Tripathi. Source code is MIT-licensed. Colors you pick using the Service belong to you (or to whoever originally created them) — we make no claim over your output.

5. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Color values are provided as a best-effort sample; sampling accuracy depends on your monitor's color profile, browser implementation, and the source content.

6. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SHRESTHA TRIPATHI, THE SCREEN COLOR PICKER PROJECT, OR ITS CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE. Total aggregate liability is limited to $0 — the Service is free.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Shrestha Tripathi, the Screen Color Picker project, and its contributors from any claims arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these terms.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of India.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
