Privacy Policy

TL;DR: Screen Color Picker runs 100% in your browser. The colors you pick are handled entirely on your device and are never collected, stored, or transmitted to us. We do use privacy-respecting analytics and may show ads to keep the tool free — both are fully disclosed below. For the architectural deep-dive on the on-device design, see Privacy by design.

1. Who we are (data controller)

This site is operated by Shrestha Tripathi (India), the data controller for the limited processing described here. For any privacy question, contact shrestha.tripathi@gmail.com.

2. Your colors never leave your device

The core of the tool is deliberately zero-knowledge:

  • The colors you pick are returned directly by your browser (via the EyeDropper API) to JavaScript running on this page. They are never sent over the network.
  • Screenshot frames from the screenshot picker are held only in browser memory while the modal is open, then freed. They are never uploaded.
  • There are no accounts — no sign-up, no login, no profile.

3. What stays on your device

Some data is stored locally in your browser and never leaves your device:

  • Color palette history — stored in localStorage under the key screencolorpicker:palette:v1.
  • Theme preference (dark/light) — stored in localStorage under screencolorpicker:theme.

You can wipe this data anytime via your browser's "Clear site data" setting, or use the "Clear all" button in the recent palette panel.

4. Information we do process

To operate and improve a free tool, a small amount of standard, non-identifying data is processed:

  • Analytics (Google Analytics 4). We use GA4 to understand aggregate, anonymized usage — page views, approximate region, device/browser type. GA4 sets cookies (see §5). We do not use it to identify you personally and IP anonymization is applied.
  • CDN / server logs. Our host (Cloudflare Pages) logs basic request metadata (IP address, user agent, request URL) for abuse prevention and infrastructure operations, typically retained ~30 days.

5. Cookies

The tool itself sets no cookies — its state lives in localStorage. Cookies are set by the third-party services we use:

  • Analytics cookies — Google Analytics 4 sets cookies (e.g. _ga) to distinguish anonymous visitors and measure aggregate usage.
  • Advertising cookies (if shown). We may display ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies (such as the DART cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices.

7. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you are in the EEA/UK (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have rights over your personal data. Because we process only anonymized, aggregate data and never build a profile of you, most requests are trivially satisfied. To exercise any right, email shrestha.tripathi@gmail.com.

  • Access / portability: we hold no identifiable data tied to you; your palette lives in your browser's localStorage and can be exported via dev tools.
  • Deletion: clear your browser site data to remove local state; you can opt out of analytics/ads cookies via the links in §5.
  • Object / restrict processing: use browser controls or the opt-out links in §5 to stop analytics and advertising cookies.
  • Opt out of sale/sharing (CCPA): we do not sell your personal information. You can limit ad personalization via Google Ads Settings.
  • Lawful basis (GDPR): legitimate interest for aggregate analytics and, where required, consent for personalized advertising.

8. International data transfers

Our providers (Cloudflare, Google) operate globally and may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States, under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Data retention

Local data (palette, theme) persists in your browser until you clear it. CDN logs are retained by Cloudflare for ~30 days. Analytics data is retained per Google's configured retention window. We keep no separate database of our own.

10. Children

Screen Color Picker is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
